"Did you get a hair cut?" "No, I got them all cut."

You would like to come over to do my hair every morning?  And you would like for me to greet you every morning with coffee and best biscotti in NYC? Okay, see you tomorrow morning at 6:10am.

For the remainder of this week, how about these styles?

Oh, and now you want to do my makeup when you're done with my hair? How wonderful! You're too kind. These are the colors I want to try this season. What do you think?

Making a statement without words.

"The talented Liu Bolin says his art is a protest against the actions of the Government, who shut down his art studio in 2005 and persecutes artists. It’s about not fitting into modern society."

Personalization vs. Customization

There's so much to be said about great customer service. I'm always awed by companies that go above and beyond to deliver their goods and services. Why? It's just not that common.

I'm used to customization, it only takes a miniute to change my preference. I ask to swap out blue cheese for chickpeas in my salad, I make my LinkedIn profile private, and I set my camera resolution to 1600x1200.

Personalization, however has an interactive component.  Messages/content are uniquely communicated to individuals. My Gilt homepage is set to highlight my purchase/website visit history, my doorman greets me by my name, and my work desk is adorned with photos of my friends and family.

After searching high and low, my boyfriend finally found a workbag that met his criteria: unique and durable. The cherry on top? The personalized note.

tug at your heartstrings

I came here tonight to apologize to the blogosphere for my long absence. But I have to interrupt my own apology with this great commercial. Maybe it's my love for Ingrid Michaelson or maybe it's simply that I have the best dad ever. Regardless, take a moment to watch this commercial.  I promise I'll update more frequently.

My life on a list.

week 1: Chicago to visit friends and family.
week 2: SPAIN.
week 3: Reorganizing and purging my closet to make room for business clothes.
week 4: End of early retirement. First day of work.

It has been four years since I've had a cubicle. Pinning of photos, whispering quietely on the phone so not to disturb cubicle-neighbors, storing treats in drawers, lining of shoes under the desk WILL all occur. I'm excited to be working for a company I've had my heart set on, but most importantly, I'll be with two of my best friends. This entry goes out to my most supportive, understanding and funny friends, PV and LL. These two ladies are beautiful inside and out, and I would truly be lost without them.

Spring

marked its first day with a rainfall that lasted all through the night and early morning.  I explored the city in my rain boots and visited unfamiliar neighborhoods.

Drenched and cold, I made a bowl of noodles when I came home. This hot and savory udon bowl was perfect for today's dreary weather.  I used vegetable stock as a base and added hard boiled egg, shrimp tempura and scallions.

I am a walking contradiction.

I have this irrational fear of balloons. I once almost punched my science teacher during an experiment in high school. When the teacher found out that I had a phobia of balloons and loud noises (ligyrophobia), he came up to my face with a balloon and popped it in my face. I like to remember this incident ending with me shoving him across the classroom.

But I digress.

I, on the other hand, LOVE hot air balloons. I love the colorful look to them and the way they float peacefully in the sky.

Inspira(Tea)ion

Now that I've switched my caffeine source from coffee to tea, I'm always searching for deliciously aromatic, but light tea. Nothing makes my gag reflex react more than a drink that tastes like air freshener or fabric softener. I received an assortment box of Tea Forte for the holidays and I have been rationing them in the past few months.

I couldn't get myself to toss out the packaging, so I scavenged my entire home and cluttered mind to come up with an idea. I am now using these pyramid-shaped boxes as my ring holder. I wrapped three quarters together using double-sided tape and placed them in the center of the box for weight. Then I lined these boxes with paper for a monochromatic look. What do you think?

If I were a celebrity...

I would wear one of these beautiful Monique Ihuillier dresses on the red carpet.
The very first one is my favorite! What's yours?

Prayers for Japan

Please keep Japan in your thoughts and prayers today.

A tsunami, wiping out the northeastern part of Japan, was spawned by a magnitude of 8.9 earthquake.

POV, what's yours?

You probably recall seeing these ads on jetways. After pointing out the thought-provoking cleverness of this ad campaign, I was once asked if these ads actually encourage me to change my bank to HSBC. My answer was no, and it's still no. But I got to thinking, just because an ad doesn't call to action doesn't necessarily mean it's not a good one. What do you think?

one of a kind from a thousand of the same

One day, we will own a home. I have always been consumed by work-in-progress projects and I constantly bookmark, rip out, tab images that I come across. Over the past weekend my negotiation skills scored me a free reign over the decoration of our future home in exchange for an indoor golf simulator. I don't think my boyfriend fully comprehends my wickedly awesome memory and isn't aware that he has verbally signed a contract.

I suspect our home will never be complete as I will always scour for new additions and designs. But isn't life about always bettering ourselves? So why not do the same with the place we spend majority of our time? I plan on learning the art of upholstery (those of you living in NYC, check out Furniture Joint) so that I can create unique pieces for our home. In the meantime, I thought I'd journal some of my ideas so that when the day comes, I don't make impulse bulk purchases at my local furniture store.

A cupboard full of colorful drinkware. I vow that no two mugs will be the same.

An abundance of natural light in the bathroom will shower us every morning.

Wall of black & white photos will capture our memories and grow as we grow.

The foot of the bed bench will allow for some relaxation before a busy day.

Better than Groupon.

No, I joke. My coupon isn't better than Groupon. I think group-coupon is one of the best inventions of 2010 and I envy those deft minds who are capable of translating their clever ideas into implementation. In light of the recent mass social phenomenon, I got caught in the craze and made a coupon birthday card. Every detail (stamped letter, written number, and drawn line) was a result of my need to be perfect. It's funny though, the end product is far from perfection.

Did you know...

Madrid, the capital of Spain, is located in the exact center of the country? And what will I be doing in this exact center of Spain come April? Eating lots of churros and paellas. Maybe one after the other (in no particular order), or maybe together, I don't know.  Vamos a Espana!

Impulse Purchase

Have you ever bought anything on impulse? Of course you have. Honestly, who could resist a knife that can cut through a shoe or 5 discs packed full of the greatest hits Motown has to offer? But not all impulse buys have to end in fits of buyers remorse and self-loathing. Every once in a very long while life gives you lemonade. Enter the pizza cutter and pan combo. My boyfriend laughed off this purchase before we even left the store, but guess who can’t get enough every time pizza night rolls around.
